How much does a business website actually cost in India?

Quotes range from ₹5,000 to ₹5,00,000 for what sounds like the same thing. Here's what actually drives the number, what the hidden costs are, and where Auren sits.

What does a business website cost in India?

In 2026, a business website in India typically costs between ₹15,000 and ₹1,50,000 upfront from an agency, ₹5,000 to ₹40,000 from a freelancer, or ₹1,500 to ₹6,000 per month on a subscription model. Ongoing hosting and domain renewal usually adds ₹3,000 to ₹15,000 per year on top of any upfront build fee.

The spread is that wide because "a website" describes wildly different things. A five-page brochure site assembled from a purchased template is genuinely a few thousand rupees of work. A hand-coded site with custom animation, real SEO architecture and an integrated booking system is not. What most business owners actually get burned by is not the headline price — it is the costs that appear afterwards: per-change edit fees, annual maintenance retainers, hosting renewals, and paying a second agency to fix or rebuild what the first one abandoned.

None of these is universally correct. If you have time and patience and genuinely simple needs, a page builder is a rational choice. If you need something bespoke once and will never touch it again, a one-time agency build makes sense. The subscription model — which is what Auren runs — makes sense when you want the site to keep changing and you don't want to pay to find out whether you like it.

What actually drives the price up

Page count is the smallest factor. Most people assume ten pages costs twice five pages. It doesn't; the second five reuse the first five's design system. What genuinely costs money:

  • Custom design vs. template. The single biggest multiplier. Designing an original visual system is days of work; applying a bought theme is hours.
  • Animation and interaction. Scroll-linked animation, WebGL, 3D — real engineering time, and easy to do badly in a way that wrecks load speed.
  • Integrations. Payment gateways, booking systems, CRM sync, WhatsApp automation. Each one is a separate thing that can break.
  • Ecommerce. Product catalogues, inventory, checkout and tax handling put a site in a different bracket entirely. See ecommerce website development.
  • Content. Photography, copywriting and video are frequently excluded from quotes and then billed separately.

The costs nobody puts in the quote

Ask about every one of these before you sign anything:

  • Edit fees. "Two rounds of revisions included" means the third round is billed. Ask what a price change costs in month seven.
  • Annual maintenance contract. Often 15–20% of the build cost per year, and often not mentioned until renewal.
  • Hosting and domain renewal. Cheap in year one, considerably less cheap in year two.
  • Plugin licences. WordPress builds frequently depend on paid plugins with annual fees in the client's name.
  • Who owns the domain. If the agency registered it under their own account, leaving them becomes expensive. Check this today.

Where Auren sits

₹0 upfront. Auren builds the complete site and puts it on a live URL within 48 hours. If you keep it, a flat monthly subscription starts, covering hosting, custom domain, unlimited edits, SEO refinement and priority support. Month-to-month, no contract, no cancellation fee.

The honest tradeoff, stated plainly: this is a subscription, not a purchase. Your domain is yours, but the build is maintained by Auren — so if you stop paying, Auren stops hosting it. That is the trade for zero upfront risk and unlimited ongoing work. The full detail, including the other caveats, is on the Design First, Pay Later page.

Website cost questions

How much does it cost to build a business website in India?

Between ₹15,000 and ₹1,50,000 upfront from a typical Indian agency, ₹5,000 to ₹40,000 from a freelancer, or ₹1,500 to ₹6,000 per month on a subscription. Add ₹3,000 to ₹15,000 a year for hosting and domain on top of any one-time build. Auren charges ₹0 upfront and a flat monthly fee that starts only if you keep the site.

Why are website quotes so different for the same thing?

Because 'a website' isn't one thing. The main multipliers are custom design versus a bought template, animation and interaction complexity, third-party integrations, and whether content and photography are included. Page count matters far less than most people assume.

Is a cheap website worth it?

Sometimes. If your needs are genuinely simple and you have time to maintain it yourself, a page builder is a reasonable choice. It stops being worth it when the site is slow enough to lose rankings, looks identical to your competitors, or costs you enquiries because it reads as less established than you are.

What ongoing costs should I expect?

Hosting and domain renewal, and usually an annual maintenance contract at around 15–20% of the build cost. Plus per-change edit fees on most one-time builds. Ask specifically what a small text change costs six months after launch — the answer is revealing.

Do I own the website?

On a one-time agency build, usually yes, though check who the domain is registered to. On Auren's subscription the domain is yours and the build is maintained by us, the same way hosted platforms work. If outright ownership matters to you, raise it on the discovery call.

Is there really no upfront cost with Auren?

Correct. The complete site is built and put on a live URL before any money changes hands. If you don't want it, there's no invoice. Auren absorbs the cost of builds that don't convert, which is why not every enquiry gets a free build.

Stop comparing quotes. Look at the actual site.
