Ecommerce sites judged on one number: how many people finish checkout.

A store can look extraordinary and still convert at 0.4%. Auren builds ecommerce around the parts that actually move revenue — product page speed, trust signals, and a checkout that doesn't leak.

What is ecommerce website development?

Ecommerce website development is building an online store: product catalogue, cart, checkout, payments, and the operational plumbing that connects orders to fulfilment. It differs from a normal website in that almost every design decision has a directly measurable revenue consequence.

For Indian D2C brands the specifics matter more than the platform. UPI is the dominant payment method and has to be first, not buried behind cards. Cash on delivery is still expected in many categories and changes how you handle returns. Product pages need to load in under two seconds on mobile data or a meaningful share of visitors leave before seeing the price. Auren builds on Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom stack depending on catalogue size and margin — and will tell you honestly which one fits rather than defaulting to whichever pays a referral.

Shopify or WooCommerce — which should you use?

This is the first real decision and most agencies answer it based on what they prefer to build, not what suits you. The honest version:

ShopifyWooCommerce
Best forBrands that want to sell, not administerContent-heavy stores, unusual requirements
Monthly costFixed plan + transaction feesHosting only, but plugins add up
MaintenanceHandled for youYours — updates, security, backups
FlexibilityHigh within its railsEffectively unlimited
Real riskFees scale with revenueNeglect. An un-updated Woo store is a security liability

Rule of thumb: if nobody on your team wants to be responsible for plugin updates, choose Shopify. If you have genuinely unusual requirements, or a large content operation alongside the store, WooCommerce earns its maintenance burden. Below roughly thirty products with simple variants, either works and the decision matters far less than the product pages themselves.

Where Indian ecommerce stores leak revenue

Slow product pages

Product pages are usually the heaviest on the site and the most important. Uncompressed hero images, four tracking scripts and a review widget loading synchronously will push Largest Contentful Paint past four seconds on mobile data. Every second of that costs conversions.

UPI buried below cards

UPI is how most Indian customers want to pay. If the checkout leads with card fields and hides UPI behind "other methods", you are adding friction to your most-used path.

No product schema

Without Product and Offer structured data, your listings can't show price, availability or star ratings in Google results — and can't appear in Google Shopping's free listings at all. This is one of the cheapest wins available and is skipped constantly.

Nothing that answers "can I trust these people?"

Return policy, shipping timelines, a real address and a working phone number do more for conversion on a new D2C brand than any amount of visual polish. Make them easy to find rather than legally buried.

What an ecommerce build includes

Platform-agnostic. The list doesn't change based on what you're selling.

Product schema markup

Product, Offer and AggregateRating structured data so listings can show price and stock in Google.

UPI-first checkout

Payment methods ordered by what Indian customers actually use, not by gateway default.

Speed-tuned product pages

Compressed and lazy-loaded imagery, deferred third-party scripts, measured against Core Web Vitals.

Trust architecture

Returns, shipping timelines, address and contact surfaced where hesitant buyers look for them.

Mobile-first everything

Cart, filters and checkout designed thumb-first — most Indian ecommerce traffic is mobile.

Unlimited edits

New products, seasonal campaigns, price changes. Included in the subscription.

Ecommerce development questions

How much does an ecommerce website cost in India?

More than a brochure site, because catalogue, checkout, payments and fulfilment integrations are real engineering. Auren still charges ₹0 upfront — you see the store built before paying — with a flat monthly subscription after. Platform fees (Shopify plan, payment gateway percentage) are separate and paid directly by you.

Should I use Shopify or WooCommerce?

Shopify if nobody on your team wants to own plugin updates, security patches and backups. WooCommerce if you have genuinely unusual requirements or a large content operation alongside the store. Under about thirty products, either works and the product pages matter far more than the platform.

Can you migrate my existing store?

Yes — products, variants, customers, orders and URL structure. URL mapping is the part that gets skipped and it's the part that costs rankings, so redirects from every old product URL are handled as part of the migration, not as an afterthought.

Do you handle payment gateway setup?

Yes, including Razorpay, Cashfree, PhonePe and Shopify Payments, with UPI prioritised in the checkout flow. You hold the merchant account — Auren configures it, but the money goes directly to you.

Will my products show up in Google Shopping?

The site is built with the Product and Offer schema that makes free Shopping listings possible, and a product feed can be configured. Whether individual products actually surface depends on Merchant Center approval and your pricing against competitors — that part isn't something any agency can promise.

How long does an ecommerce build take?

Longer than 48 hours if the catalogue is large. Auren delivers the storefront design and a sample of populated product pages within 48 hours so you can judge the work, then completes catalogue import and integrations after you've approved the direction.
