Nobody joins a gym from a website. They book a trial — if you let them.
The conversion you're actually designing for isn't a membership. It's a free trial or a first class. Make that one step obvious and everything downstream gets easier.
What does a gym website need?
A gym or fitness studio website has one realistic conversion goal: get the visitor to book a trial session or a first class. Memberships are sold in the building, not on the internet.
Designing for that changes the page order. The trial booking has to be the most prominent action on every screen, not buried under a membership comparison table. Class schedules need to be current and readable on a phone, because "is there a 6am class on Saturday?" is the most common real question. Trainer profiles matter more than facility photographs — people commit to a coach, not to equipment. And prices should be visible: hiding them to force a phone call filters out more people than it captures. Auren builds fitness sites in that order, with ExerciseGym and SportsActivityLocation schema so classes, hours and location surface in local search.

Publish your prices
The most common objection we hear from gym owners is that showing membership prices lets competitors undercut them and scares off leads who would have been persuaded on a call.
Your competitors already know your prices — they've called and asked. What hiding them actually does is filter out the people who were willing to pay and just wanted to confirm they were in the right bracket before visiting. Those people go to the studio that told them.
It also costs you search visibility. "Gym membership price Koramangala" is a real query with real volume. If the number isn't on your site as text, you cannot answer it, and someone else does.
The class schedule is the most-visited page
For studios especially, the schedule gets more traffic than everything else combined — from existing members, not prospects. That has two consequences worth designing for.
First, it has to be accurate. A schedule that's three weeks stale trains members to check Instagram instead, and you lose the one page they'd have visited regularly. Auren's subscription includes unlimited edits precisely so keeping it current costs nothing.
Second, it has to be readable on a phone in a hurry. A wide desktop timetable squeezed onto a 390px screen is unusable. Schedules get built to reflow into a scannable day-by-day list on mobile.
Trainers sell the membership
In fitness, people commit to a person. A prospect deciding between two studios two kilometres apart is not comparing equipment lists — they're deciding who they'd rather spend three mornings a week with.
Give every trainer a real profile: name, certifications, specialism, how long they've been coaching, and a photograph that isn't stock. This is also the strongest E-E-A-T signal a fitness site can carry, which matters because health and fitness content is held to a higher standard by both Google and AI search engines. The same principle applies to clinic websites.
