How to Get More Leads From Your Business Website
If your site gets traffic but no enquiries, the problem is almost never the traffic. Seven fixes, ordered by impact.
Most business websites that get traffic but no enquiries fail in the first five seconds, because the visitor cannot tell what the business does, where it is, or what to do next.
The instinct when a site isn't producing leads is to buy more traffic. That usually just increases the number of people who leave. The sequence that works is the reverse: fix what happens after arrival, then scale what's arriving. The seven changes below are ordered by how much they typically move enquiry volume, and the first four cost nothing but attention.
1. Answer three questions above the fold
What you do, where you are, and what happens next. A visitor should be able to answer all three without scrolling, on a phone. "We craft bespoke digital experiences" answers none of them. "Dental clinic in Indiranagar — book a same-day appointment" answers all three.
This single change moves enquiry rates more than anything else on this list, and it's free.
2. Make the primary action singular
Pick one thing you want a visitor to do. Book, call, WhatsApp, enquire — one. A page offering five equally-weighted options gets fewer completions of any of them than a page offering one. Secondary actions can exist; they just shouldn't compete visually with the primary one.
3. Use the channel your customers actually reply on
In India that is usually WhatsApp, not a contact form. A form lands in an inbox someone checks tomorrow; a WhatsApp message gets answered in minutes. Response speed is one of the strongest predictors of whether an enquiry converts, and for most local businesses the switch from form to WhatsApp is the second-biggest lever available.
If enquiry volume is high enough that replying promptly is the constraint, that's what AI workflow automation is for — instant first reply, qualification, and routing before a human is involved.
4. Publish your prices
Covered in common website mistakes, but it belongs here too. Price transparency raises enquiry quality and volume simultaneously, because the people who contact you have already self-qualified. If you genuinely can't publish fixed prices, publish ranges or a starting point.
5. Put proof where the decision happens
Testimonials collected on a separate "Testimonials" page are read by nobody. Move them next to the thing they're vouching for — the review about your implants work belongs on the implants section, not three clicks away. Named reviewers with a business name and photograph outperform anonymous quotes substantially.
6. Reduce the form to what you need to reply
Every additional field costs completions. Name and phone number is usually enough to start a conversation. Budget, timeline, company size and "how did you hear about us" can all be asked once someone is talking to you. If a field isn't needed to send a reply, remove it.
7. Fix the speed
A slow site loses visitors before any of the above gets a chance to work, and mobile data in India is not uniformly fast. If your Largest Contentful Paint is above four seconds on mobile, that's where your enquiries are going. The SEO checklist covers the specific fixes.
Measure before and after
Make one change at a time and give each two to four weeks. Track enquiries received, not just traffic — a site with less traffic and more enquiries is a better site, and only one of those two numbers pays you.
If you've worked through this list and the site is still the constraint, the honest conclusion may be that it needs rebuilding rather than tuning. That's what website redesign covers, including how to do it without losing the rankings you already have.
